Stargate

Brussels Airport’s Stargate project will be working with a consortium of 21 partners, including VIL, to make aviation and airports greener and more sustainable. Stargate includes building a biofuel blending installation at the airport, electric ground handling material and testing a new innovation that will make engine test runs much quieter.

PILL: Physical Internet Living Lab

The cSBO project PILL, executed by VIL imec and MOBI VUB, aims to make logistical processes more efficient, reliable, flexible and sustainable, using the Physical Internet. The project will build a prototype of the IT system which will allow the ports to be a part of the Physical Internet.

BOOSTLOG

The European Union funds a lot of research in the field of transport and logistics to support competitiveness and address climate change. The BOOSTLOG project, of which VIL is a partner, aims to systematically collect the results of these projects and to boost their impact.

Re2Live

In the intercluster project Re2Live VIL cooperates with Sirris, SIM, VITO, Flux50 and VUB to research how companies in Flanders can respond to the opportunities of the growing market of lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles. Recycling these batteries offers both challenges and opportunities for the Flemish industry and logistics sector.

DISpATch (Digital Twin for Synchromodal Transport)

In this project VUB, VIL, UHasselt and KULeuven focus on synchromodality to absorb the growth of goods transport. A platform will be developed that creates a test environment using a digital twin component, to simulate synchromodal transport in a risk-free environment.

Optiplan

The “OptiPlan” project aims at optimizing and making the planning and delivery processes dynamic for collections and deliveries to distribution centers and warehouses. With this project, VIL wants to reduce the number of waiting hours and additional kilometers driven and ensure that the loading and delivery zone of distribution centers runs smoothly.

Trailer on Barge Shuttle

The VIL project ‘Trailer on Barge Shuttle’ aims to provide an innovative alternative in congestion sensitive areas in Flanders by shuttling empty and/or loaded trailers by barge over relatively short distances by means of a ro-ro (roll on – roll off) concept.

Urban Waste Collection

Companies located in city centres generate high volumes of different kinds of waste. Local authorities are imposing more and more restrictions to company vehicles in cities. Urban waste collection is thereby becoming more and more difficult. To increase efficiency, investments in technology and material are necessary. But how do companies handle this and which investments are needed? The VIL project ‘Urban Waste Collection’ is looking for answers to these questions.

ICT paradox

This project deals with the ICT paradox in Flanders. A highly developed ICT industry is present in our region. Yet a lot of companies experience difficulties in getting an overview of this fast evolving environment and in setting clear goals to make their digital transformation tangible and feasible. Moreover, the ICT industry is often not involved with digital transformation initiatives.

ORDinL

‘ORDinL’ is a scientific research project run by the KU Leuven, in cooperation with VUB and UHasselt. The goal of this project is to develop fundamental knowlegde on datadriven optimalisation in logistics and to apply this knowlegde in a new operational decision support methodology.
