Last mile

The last mile is one of the biggest logistics challenges. The growing ‘on demand’ economy collides with the rapidly changing society and environment. There is a strong need to find solutions for these last mile complexities, with a focus on better use of space, the development of new management models and operational excellence. New forms of value creation can also provide sustainable last mile solutions.

Rural Parcel Delivery

In the project “Rural Parcel Delivery”, VIL wants to improve efficiency in the delivery of parcels in rural areas. A model of collaboration in geographic clusters with shared cross-docking capacity will be studied and tested to arrive at the most optimal economic and social situation.

R!sult (Responsive Sustainable Urban Logistics)

Local authorities are trying to maintain the liveability in the city centres. Cities in Flanders are growing and traffic congestion is a continuously growing problem. The increasing number of deliveries can been seen as one of the causes. In the project ‘R!sult” VIL is researching an integrated solution for city deliveries.

Omni Tactics

Companies who want to evolve from single-/multichannel to omnichannel retailers are facing major challenges. A retailer must determine through which channels and which delivery options he prefers to offer his products to his customers. This abundance of options gives a chance for a higher service and turnover, but also impacts the costs. With its project ‘Omni Tactics’ VIL aims to support companies, especially SME’s, to proactively determine the cost-to-serve of their omnichannel choices.

Intello City

Due to the continuous rise of e-commerce and growing urbanisation, demand for efficient urban logistics is higher than ever (more home deliveries, more delivery locations, more returns, shorter delivery periods, etc.). How can the Internet of Things also help make logistics more efficient in the city?

Omni-channel logistics

The logistics chains for online and offline sales are often completely separate. In order to meet changing customer requirements and make the process more efficient, these two logistics chains need to be integrated as far as possible. The aim of this new project is therefore the integration of the – currently separate – ‘online’ and ‘offline’ logistics.
