Since 2012, 74 companies in Flanders have obtained a Lean and Green award. Their feedback has been extremely positive: reducing CO2 emissions by 20% (and thus lowering costs) is achievable!
But this is not the only benefit of Lean and Green.
Participation in Lean and Green…
- … demonstrates that your company is committed to sustainable business practices, not just in words but also in actions,
- … engages and motivates employees and other departments in logistics improvement processes,
- … creates a leverage effect to strengthen and expand relationships with customers and suppliers,
- … provides a fresh perspective on your logistics operations through a structured review process,
- … grants access to a network of leading companies that exchange information and develop joint initiatives.
Thanks to the success of Lean and Green in Flanders and other countries, VIL has decided to continue the rollout of the program on an ongoing basis. Once a group of approximately eight companies expresses interest, a new cycle begins.
Who is it for?
Lean and Green is open to all Flemish companies and organizations with logistics activities that aim to distinguish themselves as sustainable and efficient enterprises.
What does participation involve?
Participating companies follow a structured program lasting 4 to 6 months between the kickoff and the award ceremony.
This is the official start of the program. Companies receive a group introduction to the project, methodology, objectives, and timeline.
Two interactive workshops cover key topics for developing an action plan: calculating emissions, identifying creative and innovative CO2 reduction measures, best practices for action plans, horizontal collaboration, and more.
A Lean and Green expert from VIL visits your company to discuss specific challenges and questions related to your action plan.
VIL reviews your action plan and provides feedback, including tips and improvement suggestions.
The MOBI department of Vrije Universiteit Brussel conducts the final assessment of all submitted plans. To receive the award, a plan must meet the necessary criteria and be approved.
Each company receives a detailed written evaluation, including scores for different aspects of the plan.
The Lean and Green awards are presented at a VIL event.
Upon a positive evaluation, the company receives the Lean and Green Award from VIL. With this award, companies demonstrate their active commitment to making their logistics processes more sustainable. Award winners may use the Lean and Green logo on trucks, websites, publications, and more.
