INNOVATIVE SMART GLASSES

Through the ‘Vision in Logistics’ project, VIL wants to introduce the Flemish logistics sector to innovative smart glasses and augmented reality software. What systems currently exist? How can they increase the productivity and efficiency of your logistics operations? What is their impact on existing processes? How can they be applied in practice? What do they offer more than existing systems such as pick-to-light or voice picking? This project, subsidized for 80% by VIL, will provide a highly practical response to all of these questions.

WHAT IS THE POTENTIAL?

The main objective of the project is to identify and test the potential and opportunities of smart glasses and augmented reality software in indoor and outdoor warehouses and distribution centers to increase efficiency and ergonomics in Flemish logistics operations.

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Hands-free picking, packing, and shipping;
  • The provision of correct and accurate information (packing instructions, notes for ADR goods, installation instructions, etc.) for a variety of logistics processes (picking, shipping, quality control, etc.);
  • Very user-friendly opportunities to immediately deploy new staff (permanent or temporary) for certain logistics activities (picking activity, consolidation of goods on pallets or in boxes, etc.). All actions can be real-time visualized through step-by-step instructions via the smart glasses;
  • Guiding drivers through the process of reporting on large sites and routing them to the correct loading or unloading area;
  • Ad-hoc changes, whether or not location-based, real-time communication with operators on the shop floor (e.g. hazardous goods, defective machine, etc.).
