Start2Twin

Start2Twin helps Flemish companies improve their logistics processes through digital twins: virtual models that visualize, analyze and optimize processes. With three practical cases, user-friendly tools and targeted guidance, the project sets companies on the path to more efficient, cost-effective, and data-driven logistics.

status: Running | theme: Digital transformation | type: Regional

Digital twins are virtual models of physical logistics systems such as production environments, warehouses, and entire supply chains. These models are updated in real-time with data from sensors, GPS, and other sources, giving businesses an accurate and dynamic view of their operations. This allows them to monitor, analyze, and optimize processes, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

The benefits of digital twins for the logistics industry are significant. They improve operational efficiency and reduce costs through real-time visibility and process optimization. Digital twins support better decision-making through data-driven analytics and simulations, leading to more accurate planning and management. In addition, they increase transparency in the supply chain, reduce downtime through predictive maintenance, and contribute to sustainability through more efficient use of resources and optimization of routes.

Opportunity’s

  • Discover the opportunities of digital twins: Explore the unprecedented possibilities that digital twins offer in visualization, analysis, simulation, modelling, and optimization.
  • Kickstart your digital twin journey: Learn what it takes to successfully start with a digital model, digital shadow or digital twin. Understand the essential preconditions and take future-proof steps to take your business to the next level.
  • Real-world use cases: Learn how digital twins can be leveraged to achieve significant efficiencies through three practical use cases. See the impact of this technology directly applied in similar environments.
  • Calculate ROI: Understand digital twins’ return on investment (ROI) for your specific business context. Understand the financial benefits and make informed decisions about your future investments.

Concrete activities

  • Inventory of digital twin tools and conditions: Get a comprehensive overview of the available digital twin tools, the required preconditions, essential parameters and scalability. Prepare your business for a successful implementation of digital twins.
  • Proof of concept demonstrators: Experience the power of digital twins with three real-world demonstrators at different maturity levels (low, medium, high). These demonstrators use advanced tools such as stereo cameras and process mining, adapted to the specific needs of each maturity level:
    • Visual 2D/3D mappings: Develop a digital twin of a manual warehouse or outdoor area (yard) to visualize processes such as order picking and movements in a detailed 2D/3D map.
    • Performance improvement simulations: Create a digital model to simulate various scenarios in a manual warehouse or outdoor area and analyze the impact on performance.
    • Road transport optimization: Build a digital road transport model to optimize fleet and delivery utilization, reducing costs and increasing efficiency.
  • Develop a practical toolbox: Leverage a comprehensive toolbox of valuable tools for businesses, including a step-by-step implementation plan and a tool to calculate costs and estimate ROI. This toolbox helps your company to achieve a structured and cost-effective implementation of digital twins.
  • Announcement of project results: The results are shared through a closing event, a final report, workshops, and live demonstrations. Learn from best practices and get hands-on experience with digital twins.
