Funding Opportunities via VIL for Companies and Research Institutions
As a spearhead cluster, VIL has a reserved budget with VLAIO to financially support innovative projects from companies. VIL not only helps you find the right technical and/or academic partners but also guides you in successfully preparing your VLAIO project file. Through the VIL budget, both companies and research institutions can secure funding for their projects.
Which project types are eligible?
Both R&D (O&O) and ICON projects are eligible.
How to get started?
All you need to do is explain your innovative idea in a simple project brief.
Download here the project brief for R&D projects (in Dutch) and the project brief for ICON projects (in Dutch).

SME Portfolio
The SME Portfolio is an accessible and interactive web application through which entrepreneurs can obtain subsidies from the Flemish government to support their business, innovation, and internationalization processes.
Through the SME Portfolio, subsidies are available for advice purchased from accredited service providers, including VIL. Thanks to this accreditation (DV.A211466), entrepreneurs can also receive government support for our consulting services.
In July 2022, the Flemish government decided to focus the SME Portfolio on future-oriented themes. Only the following themes are now eligible: business strategy, sector-specific competencies, digitization, sustainability, financial literacy, innovation, internationalization, and personnel management. More information about this change can be found here.
Increased SME Portfolio Support
Since April 2023, there has been increased support for training or advice related to the energy transition. The support amounts to 45% (small businesses) and 35% (medium-sized businesses). The same increased support percentages also apply to cybersecurity.
The system of the workability check and the increase of the annual SME Portfolio budget for actions related to workability have also been extended for 2023.
