Automated Guided Vehicles
Last year, VIL launched the ‘Cobots in Logistics’ project in which collaborative robots are used to perform simple logistics tasks under the supervision of an operator, such as putting an item in a box.
The success of the Cobots project has led VIL to launch a second project in the field of ‘Smart Logistics’. Flexible transport robots, or Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), show great potential too. The new generation of transport robots are flexible and compact and have no impact on infrastructure. Some also have a fully autonomous location system on board. In other words, the transport robots move goods in the warehouse without any additional tools and calculate alternative routes themselves when they encounter an obstacle.
Where can they be used?
In this project, VIL will study the latest innovations in flexible transport robots and test them for practical applications in warehouse operations.
Firstly, all available robots will be identified, together with the potential areas of application. Then, the participating companies will be screened for existing bottlenecks and requirements for the deployment of transport robots. This will be followed by practical tests, including an assessment of the implications of the business case, accompanied by a simulation and practical validation.
Smart logistics? ‘Be smart’ and take part in the new VIL project that enables you to increase the productivity and reliability of your warehouse operations!
